Winning the Argument

Julia's younger cousin has recently gone through a biting phase as many toddlers are wont to do. A couple of weeks ago, he bit Julia. There was no damage and we haven't talked about it since. But Julia brought it up yesterday.

Julia: Lorenzo (the older and currently more favored cousin) is nice. Sometimes, Joaquin (the younger cousin) bites me.

Me: Well, Joaquin only bit you once and he was sorry and I don't think he will bite you again.

Julia: But sometimes, Joaquin bites me.

Me: Well, you don't remember, but when Lorenzo was little, he bit you once. But now he's grown up and doesn't do it anymore. Joaquin is still little. He's learning and isn't going to do it anymore. EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES (I pat myself on the back for coming up with this gem of a life lesson).

Julia: But . . . EVERYONE DOESN'T BITE ME.

Um, even though my life lesson stands, I think Julia wins the argument.
